Serial Seal™ · For Whatnot sellers
Whatnot seller supplies: branded, numbered seals
Whatnot tells you how to ship. It does not tell you how to look like a brand. What lands in the buyer's hands — the sleeve, the top loader, the insert, the sticker holding it shut — is yours. This page is that last part: Whatnot seller supplies that carry your name and a number on even the cheapest shipment you send.
A Serial Seal is a die-cut printed holographic foil label with your artwork on it, individually numbered. You stick it on the plastic — top loader, one-touch, team bag, mailer flap — photograph it during pack-out, and the number goes in your log. That is the whole mechanic, and it turns Whatnot seller branded packaging into something buyers film instead of bin. We are not affiliated with Whatnot.
What to put in a Whatnot package
Ask ten sellers what to put in a Whatnot package and you get ten versions of one stack. For a single card won live:
- Penny sleeve first, then a 35pt or 55pt top loader — 130pt or 180pt for thick patches and relics.
- A team bag over the top loader, or a seal laid across the top loader opening instead. That saves you a bag: how to seal a top loader.
- The seal placed so its number reads clearly in the pack-out photo you take before the envelope closes.
- A business-card insert with your handle and show nights — the thing that brings people back Thursday.
- PWE, bubble mailer or rigid mailer depending on hammer price: how to seal a shipping package.
Placement rule, no exceptions: the seal goes on the plastic of a holder, bag or case. Never on the card. Never on factory-sealed wax. Never on a holder headed to a grader.
Whatnot breaker shipping: PWE, FCML and the bring-your-own-label clock
Whatnot breaker shipping lives or dies on the cheap end — a $4 base card out of a football break cannot carry a $5 mailer. The plain white envelope at the First-Class Mail Letter rate is the cheapest thing you can send, and the cheapest thing you can still brand and number. Card in a sleeve, in a top loader, a seal across the opening with your logo and its number, card stock, envelope. Pennies. Looks like a shop.
Say the honest part out loud in your show and your shipping notes: a PWE has no tracking, and a number on a seal does not change that. The number is a record you keep and can photograph, not a scan event. A buyer who wants tracking wants a bubble mailer with tracking, and that costs what it costs.
Then there is the clock. Bring-your-own-label sellers work to whatever shipping window Whatnot currently publishes — commonly a two-business-day turnaround — so read the live rule in the seller hub, because it moves. A two-day clock makes pack-out a production line, and seals fit for a dull reason: peel, stick, photograph, next. Nothing gets hand-written at 1 a.m. after a four-hour show. Whatnot seller stickers in the sizes your formats actually take
- Standard, 1.77 x 0.75 in (44.96 x 19.05 mm) — across a 3x4 top loader opening, along a one-touch edge, on a team bag, on a mailer flap. Shattered Prism or Aurora foil.
- Large, 2.5 x 1 in (63.5 x 25.4 mm), Shattered Prism or Aurora foil — graded slabs, big one-touches, break stacks, the seam of a rigid mailer.
Layouts: flat portrait or landscape, folded portrait or landscape for wrapping an edge, slab banner, toploader banner, and Duo — two numbered halves on one label you cut apart. Show sellers lean on Duo: one half on the top loader, the other on the packing slip, so shipment and record carry the same number. For break nights, numbering your break hits walks the stack.
A QR that points at your next show
The seal can carry an optional QR, and you choose what it opens. Two targets earn their space:
- Your next show. Point it at a page you control — show link, link-in-bio, schedule. The card arrives Tuesday, the code walks them to Thursday night: a marketing channel printed on a 50c sticker.
- The seal record. A page showing the design, the number and the date it was logged. It says nothing about the card.
Numbering is yours: a prefix plus a sequential count from a start number you set, random codes, a batch code plus number, or no number at all. Within one order, no two seals share a number. Your running log lives at My Seals.
Giveaways and the seal as the thing they film
Giveaways are the cheapest content you run and the least-branded thing you ship. The winner films an unboxing, so give the camera something: a foil seal in your show colours, a GW-0001 batch prefix numbering the season in one run, and a QR to the next show.
The same run covers repacks and mystery packs, where the number does real work: you can match a returned item against what you sent and note the discrepancy. Used that way it helps deter swaps and return fraud — it does not settle anything by itself. See repack seller numbering or breaker seals.
Volumes and pricing for a weekly show
Work it from shipments. A Thursday show pushing 40 packages a week is about 170 a month and 2,000 a year, so a 600-seal order carries roughly fifteen weeks.
| Quantity | Standard 1.77 x 0.75 in | Large 2.5 x 1 in |
|---|---|---|
| Pack of 12 | $6.00 | $9.00 |
| 60 (minimum order) | $30.00 — 50c each | $45.00 — 75c each |
| 120 | 45c each | 10% off |
| 600 | 40c each | 20% off |
| 1,200 | 36c each | 30% off |
| 2,400 | 33c each | — |
| 4,200 | 30c each | 40% off — 45c each |
Self-serve ordering runs to 10,008 seals; larger runs are quoted. Want a display sticker for slabs and top loaders? That is a separate product — five layouts, ten holographic backgrounds, packs of 12 at $6.00 (50c each) down to 40c at 600 and up — carrying the line: Custom collector display sticker. What a seal will not do
- It can be peeled and replaced. It is an adhesive foil label; someone determined can get one off and put another on.
- It says nothing about the card. The number describes the seal and the shipment — not grade, not condition, not what sits inside the holder.
- It has no standing with any marketplace or grading company. Whatnot, eBay, PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC do not know it exists.
- It does not decide a return. A number and a photograph are documentation you can show; what happens next is between you, the buyer and the platform.
Whatnot seller seal FAQ
Can I put a seal on a PWE shipment?
Yes, and it is the most common use. Seal the top loader opening rather than the envelope, so the buyer opens the envelope normally and finds the branded holder inside. A PWE still has no tracking, and a printed number does not change that.
Where does the seal go on a top loader?
Across the open top edge, centred, with the number readable in your pack-out photo. On a one-touch, run it along the seam of the two halves rather than over the window.
How many seals should a weekly show order?
Count last month's shipments and multiply by three or four so you are not reordering mid-season. Forty packages a week is about 2,000 a year, putting you in the 1,200 or 2,400 tier. The minimum order is 60 seals at $30.00 for a trial.
Can the QR link to my Whatnot show?
Yes. The QR points at any page you choose, including your show link or link-in-bio. The other option is the seal record page, which lists the design, the number and the date it was logged.
Should I seal cards going to a grader?
No. Do not put a label on a holder headed to a grading company, on the card itself, or on factory-sealed wax. Seals belong on the plastic of holders, bags and cases you ship to a buyer.
Build your show's seal in the browser — logo, Shattered Prism or Aurora, your prefix and start number, a QR to your next show: start with the Standard seal, or open the Large 2.5 x 1 in seal for slabs and break stacks. The FAQ covers adhesive, foils and turnaround.
